John’s career in the kitchen started in Pugwash, Nova Scotia
where he owned and operated the Caboose Café. He moved
to Halifax and started Big Life by producing whole grain
porridge buns out of his kitchen, which he then sold at the
Historic Farmers Market. Later, John moved his production
facilities to a more permanent space in the market where the
business is currently located.
Over the years Big Life has expanded its product line from
buns to include nutritious soups, healthy desserts, whole
grain breads, seitan (vegetarian meat substitute) and pizzas
with a variety of different crusts.
